What War Is
I used to love war. I couldn't get enough of the drama, the triumph, and the valor that seems to always be present in movies and old vet's war stories. I would spend much of my free time watching documentaries and Hollywood films. I even spent Saturday afternoons at the nursing home, listening to the vets' stories of the great things they did when they were younger and their bodies were more able.
Then, for a social studies class a few years back, I was assigned to research WWII and find some interesting information that wasn't mentioned in most encyclopedia articles. This was the perfect assignment for me. Mr. Johnson, my teacher, told us that he thought encyclopedias were unbearably boring. He joked that he would fail anyone whose paper read like one.
